Duration: This Advanced Group trains for 11 months during the year.
The Advanced Group will not train in August 2026.
Age Requirement: 9+ years old
Group Minimum Requirement: Swimmers must be able to legally swim a 100 without stopping or assistance of all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). Swimmers must be able to complete a 400-yard Individual Medley legally, without stopping.
Beginning with the 2026–27 season, swimmers will be organized into two training sections within the Advanced Group: Advanced 1 and Advanced 2.
Both sections are part of the same membership group and follow the same general practice schedule and fee structure.
Advanced 1 focuses on building the foundation needed for consistent competitive training. Swimmers will work on maintaining legal technique throughout longer practices, improving endurance, understanding intervals, developing pace awareness, and becoming more independent during workouts.
Advanced 2 provides an increased training challenge for swimmers who demonstrate advanced technique, conditioning, consistency, and practice readiness.
Advanced 2 swimmers may complete:
Greater training volume
Faster or more demanding intervals
More advanced race-pace sets
Increased underwater and technical expectations
More challenging aerobic and sprint training
Greater expectations for independence and consistency
Advanced 2 allows experienced younger swimmers, especially strong 12-and-under athletes, to receive appropriately challenging training without being moved into Platinum before the timing is right for their long-term development.
Placement in Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 is determined by the BSPC coaching staff. Coaches may consider:
Stroke technique
Training ability and endurance
Practice consistency
Interval readiness
Age and physical development
Coachability and independence
Long-term developmental needs
Placement is not permanent. Swimmers may move between sections as their skills, conditioning, and training needs develop. Coaches may also adjust lanes or training assignments for individual sets.
Being placed in Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 is not a judgment of a swimmer’s potential. The purpose is to give every swimmer the training challenge and support that will help them improve most effectively.
